Goldberg

Dieser Teil der Website der Regionalen Schule ist ein Projekt im Rahmen von Schule plus, das von Schülern der Klasse 10 im Schuljahr 2014/2015 durchgeführt wurde. Alle Angaben werden der Stadt Goldberg zur Nutzung für die Website der Stadt zur Verfügung gestellt. Auf diese Art bedanken sich die Projektteilnehmer im Namen aller Schülerinnen und Schüler sowie im Namen der Lehrkräfte und pädagogischen  Mitarbeiter bei dem Schulträger für die neuen PCs. die für die Schule in diesem Schuljahr angeschafft werden. 

Goldberg is a small town near the river Mildenitz. Goldberg is located near Rostock and Schwerin in the north of Germany. The small town is known as “The City of Three Lies: No Gold! No City! No Mountain!” (Berg German for mountain). In your leisure time, you can go by trolley on the old railway and enjoy the beautiful countryside. The route goes from Karow to Borkow and back. There are several lakes in Goldberg and its surraroundings where you can go swimming and canoeing. Moreover, you can go cycling through the woods and fields around Goldberg.

The Goldberg Mill

The Goldberg Mill is a 150-year-old building. It is 23 metres high and is one of the biggest smock mills in Mecklenburg – West Pomerania.

It's owner is Ronny Grubitz. He bought the mill at an auction. Today the owner lives in the mill. He intends to rent a part of the mill as vacation apartments to tourists. The Goldberg Mill is a listed building.

Primary School

Between 1843 and 1846 the Primary School was built at the Schützenplatz. After having been finished in 1846 it was first a college for crafts. In 1948 the school was named after John Brinckman, a poet who lived in Goldberg in the 19th century. Since 1998 it has been used as a primary school. John Brinckman School is a listed building.

Catholic Church

The building was originally built in 1845 as a Jewish synagogue. It was used as a grain storage and a fertilizer storage from 1917 till 1925. In 1925 the church was purchased by the Catholic church. Since 1925 services have been taking place in this building.

Protestant Church

You can find the Protestant Church in Kirchenstrasse. It was built in the 14th century. The church burnt down in 1643. Later it was rebuilt. It is one of the most beautiful and listed churches in the north of Germany.

Mayor Hall

The Mayor Hall is an old nice building. It was built in 1828 and it is famous for its bell. The Mayor Hall is a listed builing.

Official House

The Official House was built on the basement of a castle which belonged to different princes of Werle. Johann III, Prince of Werle, ruled the region of Goldberg between 1316 and 1352. The Official House is a listed building.

The Local Heritage Museum of Goldberg

The local Heritage Museum is located in the building of Goldberg’s former watermill.

Here you can get plenty of information about the town’s history. It is worth visiting the old kitchen of the mill.

Franco - Prussian War (1870 – 1871)

The war memorial of the Franco - Prussian War was opened in 1882. It is a masterpiece of the sculptor Christian Daniel. It shows the only ``Victoria´´ in original conditions of Mecklenburg - Hither Pomerania.

Memorial of World War One (1914 – 1918)

The war memorial was built in 1914. It honors the soldiers from Goldberg and its surroundings who were shot during World War One, for example, Herrmann Feller and his comrades. They fell in Baranawitchi in 1915 during an important battle to defend Russia. Approximately 100,000 soldiers lost their lives within a few days. (VVN - association of victims of the Nazi regime)

Memorial Stone of World War Two (1939 – 1945)

The VVN memorial stone from 1946 is located in the cemetery. It commemorates the communist anti-Fascist Karl Bichel, one of thousands of victims of the sunk concentration camp ship Cap Arcona in 1945.

Fishing on Goldberg lake

Fishing on the Goldberg Lake is great fun for children and their parents. You can catch, for example, zanders, carps, pikes or roach.

Anglers in the Goldberg region must have a fishing licence and a special ticket that allows them to fish. You can buy your ticket at Sport Plagemann, Lange Straße 75a, Goldberg.

A day ticket costs € 10.00.

A place worth living

Secondary school “Walter Husemann”

Children who live in Goldberg, Dobbertin, Spendin, Mestlin, Techentin, Neu Poserin, Steinbeck, Sandhof, Mühlenhof, Dobbin, Wendisch Waren, Below, Diestelow, Grambow, Neuhof, Sehlsdorf, Lueschow, Medow, Woosten, Klaeden, Alt Schwinz, Jellen, Kleesten, Neu Schwinz, Muehlenhof, Zidderich, Langenhagen, Hof Hagen, Kadow, Ruest, Vimfow, Groß Poserin, Klein Wangelin, Kressin, Neu Damerow; Wooster Teerofen, Herzberg, Lenschow, Woeten, Obere Warnow and Augzin go to Walter Husemann School. The school was named after the communist and resistance fighter Walter Husemann. He fought against National Socialism and belonged to the famous anti-Fascist group Red OrchestraIn 1936 he and many of his comrades were sentenced to death by the Volksgerichtshof.

The school was built in 1982. During its renovation work in 2004, a part of the building crashed down. Five construction workers died. In memory of them, five oaks were planted in front of the school, one for each of these men.
